VAT identifier check digit or structure wrong (IW-USTID)
- Standard: invowerk
- Severity: warning
- Affected fields: BT-31, BT-48, BT-63
This is a hint from invowerk, not a validation rule.
Meaning
A VAT identifier with an EU country prefix has a wrong check digit or structure (BT-31, BT-48, BT-63). invowerk checks only the structure, offline, without querying VIES or the German Federal Central Tax Office. The hint does not change the result.
Possible causes
- Transposed or mistyped digits in the number.
- A placeholder such as DE123456789 from a template was not replaced.
- The number carries another state's country prefix.
How to fix it
- In your invoicing software, compare the number with the tax office's confirmation or the business partner's master data.
- Replace template placeholders with the actual number.
