The BIC does not have the expected structure (IW-BIC)
- Standard: invowerk
- Severity: warning
- Affected fields: BT-86
This is a hint from invowerk, not a validation rule.
Meaning
The payee's BIC (BT-86) does not have the ISO 9362 structure: 8 or 11 characters, 4 letters for the bank and 2 for the country. A BIC has no check digit. The hint does not change the result.
Possible causes
- The BIC has 7, 9 or 10 characters because one is missing or extra.
- The first four positions contain a digit, such as 0 instead of O.
- Positions 5 and 6 are not a valid country code.
How to fix it
- In your invoicing software, compare the BIC with the payee's bank documents.
- Leave BT-86 out when no BIC is known; for SEPA payments the IBAN is usually enough.
