Meaning
A ZUGFeRD PDF must contain the invoice as an embedded XML file. Only the names factur-x.xml, zugferd-invoice.xml, ZUGFeRD-invoice.xml and xrechnung.xml are permitted, spelled exactly like this. Without it the PDF is not a ZUGFeRD invoice.
Possible causes
- The PDF contains no embedded file at all, because only a plain PDF was exported.
- The XML file has a free-form name, for example rechnung.xml or the invoice number.
- The spelling differs, for example Factur-X.xml instead of factur-x.xml.
How to fix it
- In your invoicing software, choose ZUGFeRD or Factur-X as the output instead of a plain PDF.
- Embed the XML file under one of the four names, letter for letter; for current ZUGFeRD versions usually factur-x.xml.
